A Night of Tribal Jazz A Success!

Dear Friends,

Thank you for joining us on our tribal journey - I am very grateful.  Artists Chris Crocco, Kenny Brooks, Ross Pederson, Cristin Hughes, Anna Brady Nuse, Jesse J. Rodriguez, and Michelle Patrick put on a spectacular event – they launched big Happy Pills (which I was already on)!

Your continued support is much appreciated, and will enable us to go on more journeys in the future.

Have a wonderful week, and remember to drop me a note. Who knows, we may have a DVD available!

Un fuerte abrazo,

Nelson Condé

Artist Donates Tribal Masks for Event - Your Bid Will Support The Howland

I am pleased to announce that a local well known artist created tribal masks inspired by the island nation Papua New Guinea. The masks are hand made; making them wonderful pieces of artwork to own. The masks will be auctioned, and all funds will go to support The Howland Cultural Center. Please consider supporting this 139 year old National Historic Treasure by bidding on these masks. The masks will be on display during "A Night of Tribal Jazz". Click the following highlighted link to view 4 images, and email your bid and Mask # to nelsonconde@live.com. Already received 2 bids! Bidding will continue at our event.
Thank you for your support.    Images of Tribal Masks

Anna Brady Nuse teams up with "A Night of Tribal Jazz" Event

Anna, an alumnae of CalArts, is a dance videomaker, performer, director, and founder of Straight to the Helicopter, a multimedia production company dedicated to making dance that is gutsy, original and accessible. The company has received support from the Puffin Foundation, the Brooklyn Arts Council, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, The Kri Foundation of New Delhi with a travel grant from the US Embassy in India and many generous individuals.

Anna will video "A Night of Tribal Jazz". Thank goodness!  I will finally have this supremely captured so I can play it over and over again!

Cristin Hughes is preparing a slick two screen video installation!

Cristin is nearing the end of her video art, and mentioned to me some of the physical elements she employed - I won't say what it is, but it sounds ridiculously cool and improvisational.

"Film exists in two forms: as film the optical illusion and film the physical object. Without the whirl of a projector, it remains a material, a series of successive images on a strip of photo-sensitive plastic. After a long absence, I have returned to film intrigued, now more than ever, by the physical properties and not just the optical aftermath. Like a film, the Hudson River is the sum of many individual parts."  -  Cristin Hughes
